I embarked on my journey 20 years ago on a small island called Cyprus, starting from home in my apartment at the young age of 18. Driven by a desire to continually improve and evolve my business, I opened my first business at 21, guided and supported by my sister Xenia, who had experience with starting businesses. Her mentorship was invaluable, and I quickly realized how many people lack such support when starting their own ventures.
When my daughter was three, we decided to move back to the UK. I sought to grow in a larger market and believed the opportunities for my family and me were better in England. However, moving to England brought its own challenges. I was not established here and soon realized that the standards, rules, and expectations were entirely different. It felt like starting my career from scratch.
I began working from home in Essex, where I built a strong client base and started teaching at various beauty schools in London. Working from home was ideal while my two young children were growing up, allowing me to manage drop-offs and pick-ups. But true to my nature, I soon felt the need for more. Once my children were in school, I decided to expand my horizons, moving my skin business to Sloane Square in London and began teaching specialist skin courses.
Always striving to be at the forefront of the industry, I noticed around 2014 that the demand was shifting towards anti-aging, laser, and skin rejuvenation procedures. Clients were seeking tangible results rather than just relaxing facials. This led us to bring in Spa Abyss, a franchise specializing in chemical peels to treat serious skin issues like acne and pigmentation. In 2016, we were among the first to introduce Algae peels in London, and our renowned Bio peeling Algae peel has since become a market sensation. Today, we are one of the leading chemical peel distributors in the UK, teaching how to treat all Fitzpatrick skin types (1-6) with face and body acids/peels.
Fast forward to 2024, and I am now launching Dermology Academy. My goal is to provide the same support and guidance that my sister offered me years ago, helping others start their careers in this incredible industry. At Dermology Academy, we aim not only to teach the formalities but to share experiences, knowledge, and real-life support from someone who has progressed from a beginner to a successful business owner.
